Who Is This Documentation For?

Target audience

As an open research data repository containing textual data, LAUDATIO is mainly aimed at all kinds of researchers who rely on textual data to conduct their research with, be they linguists, historians, or literary scholars. As such, we welcome anyone to use LAUDATIO.

Notably, LAUDATIO provides two main modes of interacting with the data: as (re)users or as providers of data. This distinction is important because as someone who actively uploads data, you need to log into LAUDATIO. As someone simply interested in exploring, compiling, and (re)using the data on LAUDATIO, you will not need to log in.

There are three further, more technical, reasons you might read this documentation: as someone interested in the metadata model of LAUDATIO, as someone interested in the software architecture of it, or as someone interested in UX design and user-centered development.

The following headers give a brief overview on where to find the relevant documentation chapters.

You are a data (re)user

This is the role of most visitors to LAUDATIO. Your entry point will be the general User Documentation page. Depending on what you want to do on LAUDATIO, then, you can read all the chapters up to "Log into LAUDATIO".

You are a data provider

As someone who has collected data and wants to make it accessible through LAUDATIO, you should first familiarize yourself with the Metadata. This page contains information on how to structure your corpus and provides a theoretical background on the underlying model. Its sub-pages provide guidance on what kind of information can be reflected in LAUDATIO and how they should be realized.

For the actual upload of your data, you can look at the User Documentation, specifically starting at the chapter on how to Log into LAUDATIO. Since your data upload determines what and how other (re)users can do with your data, you are still kindly referred to all preceding chapters in order to see what can be done with your data once it is uploaded.

You are interested in the metadata model

If you are interested in the theoretical model underlying the metadata and want to see what kind of metadata can be modelled in what way with LAUDATIO, please refer to the Metadata section.

You are interested in the software architecture

Descriptions of the software components and dependencies of LAUDATIO can be found in the Software Architecture section.

You are interested in UX design

To understand how we develop LAUDATIO from a user-centered perspective, relying on user studies to validate features and gather new feature input based on actual needs, please refer to the UX Design section.

Notes on this documentation

While LAUDATIO is already accessible online, this documentation contains descriptions, guides, and screenshots on the ongoing development version of LAUDATIO that is being implemented in the context of the TextPloring project. Since the goal of TextPloring is to publicly release LAUDATIO 2.0 at the end of its project duration (ca. end of 2027), this documentation serves to ensure the long-term documentation of the project's output.
